When it comes time to pick that perfect baby name, many moms-to-be have a specific theme in mind. Some love colorful names like Violet, Scarlet, or Grey; others are drawn to names that carry particular meanings like "happy" or "strong" or "miracle."Looking through the our site Community boards, one surprising baby name theme seems to pop up quite a few times: The great outdoors!"So we just found out we are having our third baby boy!" one mom, who already has sons Forrest and Talon, very recently wrote. "We LOVE outdoorsy/nature/unique names."Baby name suggestions? We're always happy to help! This mama got some great ideas in response to her plea. Here are some that stood out, along with several more of our favorite adventurous, outdoorsy baby names.I really like this name theme. Like a lot of parents, a great love and respect for the outside world is something I hope to instill in my kids as they grow up. I want them to always find calm and joy and inspiration in nature. To borrow one of my all-time favorite quotes from Anne of Green Gables: “Why must people kneel down to pray? If I really wanted to pray I’ll tell you what I’d do. I’d go out into a great big field all alone or in the deep, deep woods and I’d look up into the sky – up– up- up- into that lovely blue sky that looks as if there was no end to its blueness. And then I’d just feel a prayer.”Trust Anne to say it so well. What better way to kick-start this life-long appreciation of the great outdoors than by using it as baby name inspiration? The fact that there are so many fantastic and unique choices - the ones above are just the tip of the iceberg - makes it all the more appealing.Images by ThinkStockThis post was originally published May 5, 2016; it was updated and republished February 26, 2018
