Low back pain in pregnancy and solutions

Low back pain in pregnancy and solutions

Low back pain is very common in the general public. In women, low back pain especially increases with pregnancy. Low back pain can be seen in about half of pregnant women. Low back pain can develop for 2 reasons. One is simply increased body weight due to pregnancy. The other is an overload that falls on the front of the body. Thus, the center of gravity of the body falls forward and this causes excessive strain on the waist. Waist and back muscles are forced to work hard to prevent the body from moving forward and to maintain balance. This causes back pain. Pregnant women should be done to minimize back pain;

a) Appropriate exercise programs: Ask your doctor about the exercises to strengthen the abdominal and back muscles that are appropriate for you and how often you should practice them. Swim is the ideal type of exercise to keep the body alive and eliminate excessive stress on your waist due to the extra burden of pregnancy.

b) Lifting: To remove something from the ground, kneel down on one knee, with the other foot flat on the floor, without bending your waist. Hold the object as close to your body as possible and lift it by placing a load on your legs, not on your waist. However, remember that you may lose your balance very easily because you are pregnant. If possible, ask for help for such work.

c) Handling: Instead of carrying a heavy load in one hand, it is more balanced and healthy to carry the goods you will carry by sharing them in both hands. If you are going to carry a single heavy object, keep the object as close to your body as possible.

d) Asleep: The amount of load on your back while sleeping on your back is about 27 kg. d. A pillow placed under your knees will reduce this load by half. Placing the pillow between the legs while lying on its side will provide the same relief.

Life Changing with Birth

Posture disorders during pregnancy do not leave permanent marks on the spine after birth, but your baby may have congenital spine curvatures and spine disorders. Congenital scoliosis (side curvature) and kyphosis (forward curvature or humpback) are called congenital spinal curvatures. These diseases may also be accompanied by various levels of spinal cord disorders. There is no serious precaution for spinal curvature. Preventing these diseases from occurring, such as the mother's good nutrition, the baby in the proper position, such as measures will not have an effect. However, low back pain in childhood is also an important issue. To prevent this, measures such as proper position, not lifting heavy, not carrying heavy bags shall be in place. In fact, the best measure for the control of posture in children is to encourage children to do sports and to make them do sports. Sports will also strengthen the muscles of the waist, abdomen and back to prevent spine problems.

Heavy Backpack Harmful

It is known that backpacks heavier than 10% of body weight increase the energy needs of children for walking, affect lung function and increase the incidence of low back pain. Therefore carrying a heavy backpack causes low back pain and fatigue. The effect of the rows of children on low back pain is not clearly known. However, based on our experience from adults, I think it is important that these rows are comfortable, filling the waist and having high rows or back seats.

What should mothers do?

The factors that the mother should pay attention to in terms of child lumbar health can be summarized as follows;

a) To give the child the habit of doing regular sports: Especially for children with poor posture, mothers often do the work to warn the child to stand properly. However, it is very difficult to eliminate these habits of children with frequent warnings. The most important means to improve the posture of children is to encourage them to do sports and to maintain their body's vitality and increase their condition.

b) Nutrition: It is known that good nutrition reduces low back pain, and on the contrary, it is known that fast-food snacking, known as fast food, is harmful for low back health.

c) Smoking: The role of smoking in low back pain is now well known. Therefore, especially young adult children should be kept away from this habit.

d) Waist health education: the rules for maintaining our low back health, such as not carrying heavy loads, ideal positions when carrying loads, sitting, standing, etc., and that training should be given by parents from a younger age. Of course, in order for these rules to be perceived well by children, they must first be implemented well by parents.

e) Other factors: There are several factors that have been shown to be of direct concern to low back pain. The most striking ones are; overweight children, children with poor relations with parents and friends, and children who watch television for a long time. Several studies have shown that low back pain is more common in children with these characteristics. Therefore, parents should pay attention to these factors.
